16-year-old Kristen Gregory was at the park, Thursday afternoon right after school. She was avoiding going home, because she knew that she'd find her father there; most likely drunk. And for once, she wasn't with her friends. She didn't mind though. She loved her friends, but it was also nice to get away too. It was just that; Mass, Claire, and Alicia all had their boyfriends. Boyfriends that were all like brothers to Kristen. She was happy for them, but she herself stayed away from relationships. She flirted a lot and had flings here and there, but she never allowed anything to stick.
She shyed away from the guys who liked her. Though really, she was quite oblivious when a guy liked her. She'd been told that Benjamin Hamm liked her, but she didn't believe the rumors. Still though, she took no chances. Besides which, if she was completely honest with herself; she would admit to thinking that Ben was really attractive. And, she knew that if she allowed herself to put down that barrier, it might be totally easy to fall for him. After all, Ben was a sweetie. He was so unlike his best friend.
But she kept telling herself over and over not to think about him. Not to let herself fall for him. So, she mostly just stayed away from him. But, she hated to admit this to herself; but she thought about him way more then she should. And it slightly pissed her off. So, she steered clear, guarding her heart fiercely. She took chances on other things, but she wouldn't take a chance on this. But hey, maybe she was getting way too ahead of herself here. Maybe Ben didn't like her at all, the way some people said he did. A small part of her hoped that he did like her though, even though that fact scared her a bit.
She sighed, raking her hands through her hair. She was wearing her favorite pair of blue jeans, and a tight light pink sweater. Simple clothing, but they looked really good on her. She was sitting on a bench, and she looked extremely lost in thought. Which, she was. She was thinking about Ben, in spite of herself; among other things.
